FAB FINDING FOR LESS:

While we are surrounded in an eighties flashback from most designers, Miuccia Prada has pulled through with something so revolutionary. Her collection (since there was absoloutely no way she would give us glitzy eighties) was one of the few and easily the most extremely influenced by the 40's, a trend that is highly noted in many of this fall's September issues, Vogue and Vogue Paris at the top of the list. Prada's biggest contribution, though, was the incredible over-the-knee boots she gave us, which were soon modified by many designers to fit their notions. But boots are a must-have for fall which ever way you want to put it. My personal favorites are the embellished Gucci ones, but in this economy very few have an extra $1,160 to spend on boots, and that's even discounted.

JPG to Resign From Hermes?

FWD has reported that Jean Paul Gualtier is resigning from his position as the creative director at Hermes, with his spring 2010 collection for the label, which will be shown in October, as his last. There has been no conformation from anyone at Hermes, and no reason for resignation has been mentioned. Gualtier started at Hermes in 2003, replacing Martin Margiela. The brand has done noticeably well with Gaultier's direction; impressive runway collections have struck well with critics and buyers alike. In July, the brand even reported a 12% increase in sales for the second quarter this year, an excellent profit in these economic times. Interestingly enough, Gualtier's own company is tied to Hermes, after a $23 million investment in Gualtier from Hermes, with a spokesperson saying, "a love match rather than a business arrangement . . . I believe that Gaultier has the capacity to be what Hermès has become," about the deal.

The September Issue Premiere!

The premiere of The September Issue, which opens nationwide September 11, was held in absoloute true Vogue style, thanks to Anna Wintour's hostin. Arrivals were supposed to start sometime around 7, but Anna, along with her September 2007 cover girl Sienna Miller showed up promptly at 6:45. The night was clearly all about Anna, though many people conclude that Grace Coddington is the real star- both Grace and Andre Leon Tally were avoiding being photographed on the red carpet, but Grace did say this about her portrayal in the film:

" I hate to say it, but true to life! A very annoying person. But it’s not really bickering. It’s a process you have to go through for the job we do and it just makes everything stronger. Whatever gets through is then very valid and very strong. I think they focused on me in the movie because I’m a bit more outspoken and because I don’t care about the cameras, I’ll say whatever I want to say and I won’t hold back."

Bee Shaffer, who even had to remind her mother to put on her sunglasses on the red carpet spoke about her scene in the film:

"It’s funny because that was two years ago and I wanted to go to law school then and that’s basically all I’m talking about and now I don’t want to go to law school at all so . . . [I] still don’t want to work in fashion, that was never a possibility. Now I’d like to work in theater."

And despite what any critics may say, Anna has the support of her good friend Marc Jacobs:
"She’s a risk-taker unafraid of taking chances. She doesn’t suck up... and she’s been very good to me on a personal level as well. When I was having some personal problems, Anna was always there for me. She’s very maternal and caring to people she cares about." He said.

Anna Wintour Will Ad-Lib Letterman

Anna Wintour may be infamous for the rehearsed, perfect appearance- we all know how she values her image- but her appearance on David Letterman on the 24th to promote The September Issue, reportedly won't be rehearsed. Instead, a spokesperson said that she's "going to ad-lib". In honor of the film's premiere yesterday, two more clips have been released- one showing Sienna Miller wearing a wig at the cover shoot after they criticize the condition of her hair, and another showing creative director Grace Coddingtion dressing a model, and talking about how she's one of the only editors who does it.

Katie Grand Speaks Out

The editor-in-cheif of Conde's newest, super-cool fashion magazine LOVE on her aspirations, how LOVE is different than Vogue, and breaking tradition:
“I’m really practical,” she told the Times UK. “I go to the gym most mornings and I walk everywhere, so that’s why I wear flat shoes and no make-up. It’s not vanity; it’s laziness. I didn’t wear make-up on my wedding day because I didn’t want mascara running down my face if I cried. I wore an Azzedine Alaïa brown snakeskin dress, which he tortured me for about two months to get into, but at least it’s something I can wear again. I didn’t want some stupid white dress; it seems like such a waste."

On her Vogue dreams at 17:
"Yes, when I was 17 I said I wanted to edit Vogue. I kind of regret saying it because it’s caused me so much trouble. But, you know, when I was 17 I did want to edit Vogue! I don’t think Conde would have given me my own magazine if replacing Alexandra Shulman was on their agenda, but I am very grateful that they did."

She's driven, though:

"I was definitely very ambitious in my twenties. I wanted to style the Prada show, edit a magazine, and own a house by the time I was 30. It’s that list of boxes you need to tick off or you can’t sleep at night. I’ve done a lot of the things I set out to do, so I don’t need to prove myself any more.”

She finds frusturation sometimes when working as a stylist:
“People don’t want you to invent the wheel, they want you to help them. Sometimes it’s hard: sometimes they just want you there at 3am to play Dolly Parton and lighten the mood; sometimes you have to hold back your opinions. The older and more experienced I get, the harder it’s become to sit in a room and be subservient.”

Rumors have circulated, though, that food is banned in LOVE's offices, since Grand herself ate next to nothing for a while: “Anorexia has nothing to do with fashion,” she says defensively. “There’s a million other contributing factors.” She then becomes antsy, and it's pretty clear she doesn't like the subject: “This whole office is obsessed with food,” she says firmly. “Or no food. Or how long they can go to the gym for.” Word is that "ryvitas are acceptable, but pasta salads are not," in the office.

On her issue filled with no-names:
“I thought it was interesting to add the new category of ‘unknown’ into the mix . . . The last issue was quite mature, so we decided to do a youth issue. I wanted to get a sense of what 15-year-olds were into. A lot of those London kids, they’re all hanging out with each other and are all so educated. My husband has a 13-year-old son, and all his school friends are children of famous film directors or musicians, and they are so sussed, they think everything is so boring. So it was hard, actually.”
