Over the weekend, I finally got around to going to the Model As Muse exhibit at The Met. It was quite interesting; set up like an informational timeline. With the progression of time, the information on the actual models became more in-depth and interesting. The focus of anything pre-1940s was more on the photographer's vision. I woud have liked to see more of the overall mystery of the evolving embodiment of fashion when it first emerged, and the relation of Coco Chanel, since she was almost reluctant to use anyone as a muse but herself. More on the difference between the embodiment and conformation of the model to the clothing, and the transition the model over time made to becoming something inspirational to a designer would have been cool. Maybe a look at the mystery models posess and how their identities have to be so secure to be able to do the work they do; not only due to the harsh industry standards, but because you need to have an in-depth understanding of who you are to be able to make yourself into the character that someone else has envisoned. The immense acting aspect to the whole profession felt almost passed over...
